About P21 Peptide: P21 is a peptide that was developed by reverse engineering Cerebrolysin’s effect using epitope mapping. Researchers established that the central neurogenic and memory enhancing effects from Cerebrolysin were due to its ability to react to human CNTF.
Scholar researchers shortened their inquiry, and discovered that an 11-mer peptide, labeled peptide 6 (Ac-VGDGGLFEKKL-NH2), enhanced hippocampus-dependent learning and memory, increased neurogenesis, and neuronal plasticity. Scientists then resolved the most active sub-sequence in the peptide called peptide 6C (Ac-DGGL-NH2). However, this peptide sequence showed to have low blood brain barrier permeability, and was easily broken down by plasma enzymes.
To test this, they added an adamantane moiety to the N-terminus of the peptide sequence. This exceptionally lipophilic tricyclic alkane highly elevated the BBB permeability, and protected the peptide from enzymatic degradation. This made the brand-new peptide able to be effective when taken via subcutaneous administration.
Differences Between P21 & Cerobrolysin
Cerebrolysin and P21 are relatively similar in vigor, but the difference is in their delivery of those benefits. They are related, but do have some differences.
Cerebrolysin was more “comprehensive” and increases cognition. But, research studies noted an improved aspect more so than another, it was evenly distributed.
P21 had similar improvements in trials, but were more localized in areas of cognition. But in those spaces, it was improved more dramatically than Cerebrolysin.
